Overview
About this Spot
Boulders is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia. Known for its challenging conditions, Boulders offers one of the longest left-hand waves in Australia when it’s working. The wave direction is left, and the bottom consists of sand and rocks, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. The spot is known for its regional classic quality, but it rarely breaks, so checking the surf forecast is essential. The best conditions occur at medium to high tide. Boulders can get crowded, so it’s important to check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots. The area is known for its rips and undertow, and there are rocks present, so surfers should be cautious. Localism is strong here, and the spot is shark protected, meaning locals prefer tourists and those traveling from the bay to stay away. However, if you respect the locals and don’t drop in, you might be allowed a wave. To reach Boulders, drive to Jimmys Beach Caravan Park at Hawks Nest, where you can either drive a 4WD south to the headland and walk through the bush track or walk towards the headland along Jimmys Beach. Nearby surf spots include Zenith Beach, Box Beach, Hawks Nest, Fingal Spit, and Back Jimmys. It’s important to check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Respect the locals.
