Overview
About this Spot
Fish Pass Jetties is a surf spot located in Texas, USA Gulf of Mexico. The spot is situated at the northern end of Mustang Island State Park near Corpus Christi. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Fish Pass Jetties features a pair of jetties that help break up strong rip currents and block harsh winds, creating favorable conditions for surfing. The bottom is sandy, and the spot can be surfed at all tides. It’s suitable for intermediate surfers and has a regular wave frequency. The waves are typically less than 50 meters in length. The spot can get crowded, so it’s important to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette. Access to Fish Pass Jetties can be achieved through Mustang Island State Park or via Beach Access Road 2 off Highway 361. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended due to the sandy terrain. Surfers can choose to surf between the jetties for larger waves with shorter rides, or on the north or south sides for longer rides. However, the space between the jetties can be dangerous during head-high conditions. The best surf conditions typically occur during the winter months, often producing long left-breaking waves. The waves are generally considered mushy, making them more suitable for longboarding, especially during lower to mid tides. Potential hazards include rocks, rip currents, and marine life such as sharks and jellyfish. It’s important to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Amenities near the jetties are limited, so bring necessary supplies as the nearest store is about 17 miles away. Remember to check the surf forecast and report before your visit. While not the best, Fish Pass Jetties is considered one of the better spots to surf along the Texas coast.
