Overview
About this Spot
Safi is a surf spot located in Central Morocco, Morocco. Known as one of the country’s classic waves, Safi is a point break that comes alive in big swells, capable of holding waves of 12 feet or more. The wave direction is right, and the bottom consists of sand and rocks, making it a spot for intermediate surfers. When the northwesterly swell starts running, this wave can break for up to 500 meters, producing big hollow barrels that attract surfers from around the world. Offshore conditions are ideal with northeasterly winds. The spot is north of the town of Safi and is relatively hidden, which can lead to a less crowded experience, especially when the waves are large. However, it’s important to note that the local scene may not always be welcoming, so it’s crucial to respect the locals and check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots. The quality of the waves is considered world-class, and the length of the ride ranges from 150 to 300 meters. Nearby surf spots include Lalla Fatna, Oualidia, and Sidi Abed. Famous surfers like Tom Carroll and Gary Elkerton have surfed here, with Tom Carroll noting that the Garden is one of the top spots in the world. Before heading out, surfers should check their skills to ensure the spot matches their level. Always remember to check the difficulty of a spot before entering the water. Respect the locals.
