Overview
About this Spot
La Ensenada is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the San Bartolo district about 80 kilometers south of the city. The spot sits beside the highway, around 4 km before Totorita, and is accessible by all types of cars, including 4x4s. Parking where you can keep an eye on your car is recommended. The surf spot provides left waves. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters, and the spot is known for strong, well-formed waves that can reach up to 2 meters, especially during the winter months and in February when groundswells from the south and offshore winds from the east-northeast are common. The spot is considered a regional classic and is best suited for intermediate surfers. Sometimes the break is empty, but it can get crowded when the surf is good. Localism can be present, so respect the locals, especially when the spot is busy, and always check the surf etiquette when the lineup is crowded. The surf here is consistent, but it does not break all the time, so check the surf forecast and report before heading out. The spot works at all stages of the tide, but low tide is often preferred. The area is close to other surf spots like Boca Leon, San Antonio, Totoritas, Puerto Viejo, and Puerto Nuevo. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. Watch out for rocks in the area. For more details, check the surf map and webcam for current conditions.
