About this Spot

Sabang is a surf spot located in Luzon, Philippines, in the fishing village of Sabang, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur. The spot is about 6.5 km from the national highway, and you can reach it by taking the turn off for Salamague Port when entering Cabugao. It is roughly a 2.5 hour drive up the coast from La Union. The surf spot sits in front of Carolines Beach House, where you can park your car. Lodging is available with clean rooms, hot water, and AC, and there is a restaurant for after-surf meals. Sabang breaks on any north swell and works best with higher tides. The spot is protected by the coastline, so even when strong winds are blowing outside, the wave faces stay clean and surfable. The bottom is coral reef, and the wave length ranges from 150 to 300 meters. The spot is known for its long rides with a nice shoulder for big turns, and while barrels are rare, some sections offer them. There is a deep channel for easy paddle outs if you make the section, but if you miss it, the water gets shallow quickly and you may end up on the reef. Sabang can handle large swells due to the deep channel and rarely closes out. The wave is fun at shoulder to head high, but gets better when overhead. The spot is usually empty, but always respect the locals and check the surf etiquette when it gets crowded. The surf spot provides right waves. The spot is considered a regional classic and is best suited for intermediate surfers. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. You can hire boats here to reach other nearby surf spots. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam updates, check reliable sources before heading out. The nearest known spot is Pagudpud.
