Manta Rota is a surf spot located in Algarve, Portugal. The spot sits in the small seaside town of Manta Rota, within the civil parish of Vila Nova de Cacela, in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António. It is about 10 kilometers west of Vila Real de Santo António, 15 kilometers east of Tavira, and 40 kilometers east of Faro. The beach, Praia da Manta Rota, is known for its fine white sand and stretches for over a kilometer, with wide areas at low tide and low sand dunes behind the beach. The bottom is sandy, and the waves break best at low and medium tide. The spot is suitable for all levels, with conditions that are good for beginners, especially on the inside sections where the waves are softer. More experienced surfers can use shortboards, mid-lengths, retro boards, or longboards, depending on the conditions. The spot provides both left and right waves. The surf is regular, with wave lengths usually less than 50 meters. The best swell comes from the southeast, south, and southwest, with a minimum swell height of 3 feet needed for decent waves. The best wind direction is from the northwest or north. The beach can get moderately crowded, so respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and the conditions match your level. Access to the beach is easy, just follow the signs to Praia da Manta Rota from Tavira or ask for directions, drive to the end of the car park, and walk over the sand dunes using the wooden boardwalks. Parking is available near the beach, and there are bars and restaurants right on the sand. Lifeguard services are present during the bathing season, and facilities like showers and toilets are available. Nearby surf spots include Praia de Altura, Vila Real Santo Antonio, Ilha de Tavira, Ilha da Fuzeta, and Ilha da Culatra.
