About this Spot

Meia Praia is a surf spot located in Algarve, Portugal. This beach is known for its sandy bottom and offers waves suitable for both beginners and intermediate surfers. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The best conditions are typically found at medium and high tides. Meia Praia is a long beach, approximately 5 kilometers in length, which helps to disperse crowds, although the very right-hand side of the beach can be more crowded with locals. Parking is convenient and free, with several car parks available right on the beach and near the marina. The beach is easily accessible from Lagos, with a 20-minute walk from town over the bridge. While the waves at Meia Praia are not consistently breaking, when they do, they are fast and clean with offshore winds creating crisp conditions. It is important to check the surf forecast and report before heading out, as the spot does not work very often. Nearby surf spots include Alvor, Luz, Três Irmãos, Burgau, and Praia da Rocha. When the spot is crowded, be sure to check the surf etiquette and always respect the locals. Additionally, check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level.
