About this Spot

Balangan is a surf spot located in Bali, Indonesia. The surf spot provides left waves. It’s situated on the Bukit Peninsula, known for its picturesque coastline and consistent surf conditions. Balangan features a half-kilometer stretch of golden sand bordered by limestone cliffs. The surf break is a left-hand reef break, offering long, fast-breaking waves. Under optimal conditions, rides can extend up to 300 meters. Wave quality improves with larger swells, providing steep, quick, and open left-handers that occasionally barrel at the peak and again on the inside. Balangan is suitable for surfers of varying skill levels. Check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The optimal time to surf at Balangan is during the dry season, from April to October. The beach is accessible via Jalan Pantai Balangan, about 20 kilometers south of Kuta. Parking is available near the beach for a small fee. Local warungs (food stalls) along the beach offer refreshments and meals. Some provide board rentals and storage for personal belongings. The bottom is coral reef, and the spot works best during low and medium tides. Balangan is considered a regional classic in terms of quality. The spot can accommodate all levels of experience, with wave lengths ranging from 50 to 150 meters. Typically, there are few surfers in the lineup, but it’s always important to check the surf etiquette when the spot gets crowded. Nearby spots include Dreamland, Bingin, Impossibles, Padang Padang, and Uluwatu. Be cautious of rocks and the sharp coral reef, especially at low tide. Respect the local people and their customs, as this place holds spiritual significance. It’s advisable to be nice and pay the locals after they’ve watched over your vehicle. Remember, Balangan offers more than just surfing; take time to appreciate the surrounding natural beauty. A new two-lane road leads to the spot, but there might be a road block on the way from Kuta to Uluwatu. Follow your instincts, and you should reach the place without major difficulties. A 4×4 vehicle might be helpful for access.
