Overview
About this Spot
Stalida Beach is a surf spot located in Crete, Greece. Situated between the villages of Malia and Hersonissos on the north coast of Crete, Stalida Beach offers a relaxed atmosphere compared to its neighboring resorts. The beach is known for its long, sandy stretch and is a popular destination for tourists from various European countries. The surf conditions at Stalida Beach are primarily influenced by the prevailing wind conditions. With northern wind directions, the waves can become choppy, but they tend to get cleaner as the wind shifts more to the west. The spot provides both left and right waves, making it suitable for surfers of all levels. The sea bottom is sandy, and the waves break at all tides, although they sometimes break and are less than 50 meters in length. The surf spot is generally uncrowded, providing ample space for surfers to enjoy the waves. It’s important to take a big board and have fun with the smaller waves, as the surf on Crete is not known for being particularly large. Stalida Beach is located about 30 kilometers east of Heraklion, the capital of Crete. To reach the beach, take the motorway east until the end in Stalis/Malia, then follow the coast road to the beach promenade. The small beach is situated in front of the hotels “Blue Sea” and “Eleni Beach.” Surfers should check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots and assess their skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match their level. Respect the locals.
