Grandma’s is a surf spot located in Maui, Hawaii. The spot is situated in West Maui, near Papalaua Wayside Park, along the Honoapiilani Highway. It’s the first beach accessible after the ‘Pali’ section when heading towards Lahaina. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Grandma’s features a coral reef and sand bottom, with waves typically breaking over a reef. The spot is suitable for beginners and offers waves less than 50m in length. Tides are medium, and the spot experiences regular wave frequency. Grandma’s can get crowded, especially on weekends, so it’s important to check the surf etiquette before paddling out. The main surfable waves are found along the beach, with the primary peak on the southern edge. Waves are generally gentle and ‘mushy,’ making them suitable for various skill levels. However, it’s crucial to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. The park serves as a campground and is popular among families on weekends. Amenities are limited, with only porta-potties and trash cans available. Be cautious of shallow and sharp reef during low tide, as well as concealed rocks. The park has kiawe trees with sharp thorns, so watch your step when walking barefoot. Strong winds can be a factor, potentially affecting board control.
