Overview
About this Spot
Red Bluff is a surf spot located in North West Australia, Australia. Known for its powerful left-hand waves, Red Bluff is a destination for intermediate surfers seeking a challenging experience. The wave breaks over a coral reef, with a length ranging from 50 to 150 meters, offering an epic quality ride. The spot is relatively uncrowded, but you may encounter a local presence, so it’s important to respect the surf etiquette and share the waves. The area is known for its natural beauty and remote location, situated about an hour and a half drive from Carnarvon. To reach Red Bluff, drive north from Carnarvon, turn into Blow Holes Road, and follow the unsealed section past Quobba Station. Be sure to close any gates you pass through. The surf spot is surrounded by other notable locations such as Turtles and Tombstones. Red Bluff is not suitable for beginners due to its fast and powerful waves, which can be hazardous with rips, undertow, rocks, and the presence of sharks. Wearing a helmet and booties is recommended to protect against the reef and sea urchins. The atmosphere can vary from cruisy to intense, depending on your attitude, so sharing a few beers with fellow surfers can enhance your experience. The spot breaks nearly all year round, but if the waves are not working, you can explore the reef for lobsters. Remember to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match your surfing level. Respect the locals.
