About this Spot

Granites is a surf spot located in South Australia, Australia. This spot is known for its left-hand waves and features a boulder bottom, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. The waves at Granites are very consistent, with a length ranging from 150 to 300 meters. The spot works best in a big swell and can handle southeast to east winds. Granites is situated along the Westall Way Tourist Drive, which is a well-maintained dirt road that offers scenic coastal views. The area is closer to Streaky Bay, accessible via the Smoothpools road. The surf spot can be crowded with local surfers and campers, so it’s important to check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. Additionally, surfers should be aware of the presence of rocks, rips, undertow, and sea urchins. Shark sightings have been reported in the area, and it is known as a potential breeding ground for great white sharks. In fact, there was a fatal shark attack at Granites Beach in October 2023. Therefore, it’s crucial to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level.
