About this Spot

Dedis is a surf spot located in Queensland, Australia. This spot provides both left and right waves. The bottom is characterized by a coral reef, which can be challenging for surfers. The best conditions for surfing at Dedis occur during low and medium tides. The quality of the waves is considered regional classic, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. The spot sometimes breaks, with wave lengths ranging from 50 to 150 meters. Dedis is known for being relatively uncrowded, offering a more solitary surfing experience. Nearby surf spots include Mooloolaba, The Bluff, The Spit Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headlands, and Murray’s Left. To reach Dedis, drive down into the carpark at Mooloolaba and look out to sea behind the rocks. If the conditions are right, you will see the waves breaking. Walk down the beach to the sand south of the rocks, then jump in and paddle back to the north. Be cautious of the rocks, but don’t be afraid, as it is possible to navigate them. Surfing at Dedis can increase your wave count compared to more crowded spots like Alex Bluff. Look over at Carties to see the sets rolling in, and be prepared for one to reach you in about two minutes. Try going both right and left. On the right-hand wave, remember to pull out near the end, just before the rocks. The left-hand wave can be ridden into the dumping beach break. It’s important to check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded and to assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match your surfing level. Respect the locals.
