Cylinder offers a right-hand wave direction and is known for its sandy bottom. The surf spot works best during low and medium tides and is considered a world-class wave, suitable for intermediate surfers. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. Cylinder is known for its distinct sections, starting from the top of Deadmans Beach to Home Beach, with the prime wave often found off the corner of Cylinder Headland. A notable ride can extend from in front of the headland through a barrel section down to the pub, covering a distance of about 200 meters. The spot is characterized by a strong rip, especially with a lot of south in the swell. Localism is present, and it’s important to respect the local surfers and follow surf etiquette. The spot is less crowded when the waves are over six feet. Ideal conditions include an east swell, south wind, and the right sand build-up.
