About this Spot

Double Island Point is a surf spot located in Queensland, Australia. This spot provides both left and right waves, with a bottom consisting of sand and rocks. The ideal tide for surfing here is low, and the quality of the waves is considered a regional classic. Surfers of all experience levels can enjoy this spot, as it offers a regular frequency of waves with lengths ranging from 150 to 300 meters. The crowd is typically empty, providing a more relaxed surfing experience. Nearby surf spots include Teewah, Rainbow Beach, Inskip Point, Red Canyon, and Noosa Main Beach. Double Island Point is known for its rips and undertow, as well as the presence of rocks and sharks. It is a great spot to spend a few days with friends, offering Australia’s longest wave on one side. If this side is working, the other side and Rainbow Beach are likely to be as well. A sand dune allows surfers to access the other side without packing up and driving. The spot is primarily a day trip for locals and those from Rainbow Beach. There are two sides to Double Island Point, and the best conditions for a clean wave are found at the carpark and cove during easterly, southeast, and southerly winds. Teewah is the main beach on the Noosa side, offering a powerful left and occasional right. Surfers should be cautious not to drop in on locals, as they may retaliate. The wave can form a big bowl when the banks are right, providing speed and air. This break is best with northerly winds, particularly north east and north west. The spot can get crowded, and Teewah offers many sick banks and occasional bigger waves than elsewhere. If the waves are 2ft down the coast at Mooloolaba, they will be larger at the pocket for those desperate for a surf. The extra-long sandy point features bigger waves breaking in front of the headland. The area is quiet and chilled, as seen in Endless Summer 2. If the conditions aren’t ideal, surfers can explore other nearby spots or head south to Noosa along the beach, which takes about 3/4 of an hour. The spot is a local place, and while tourists are welcome, it’s important not to mess with the locals. To reach Double Island Point, head south from Rainbow Beach along the back road, then drive along the beach. From Rainbow Beach, access the beach with a 4×4 vehicle and head towards Double Island Point. Upon arrival, drive through the passage to the Cherry Venture shipwreck, then turn left and continue until reaching the end where the lighthouse is located. Always respect the locals, check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded, and assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level.
