Overview
About this Spot
Spookies is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia. This spot is known for its challenging conditions and is best suited for experienced surfers. The wave breaks less than 10 meters away from a sharp rock ledge that protrudes about a meter out of the water, creating a heavy and loud atmosphere. The bottom is composed of boulders, and the wave quality is considered epic, but it is not suitable for beginners. Surfers should use shortboards to navigate the twisting barrels that Spookies offers. The spot sometimes breaks and has a length of less than 50 meters. It is typically empty, but localism can be an issue, so it’s important to respect the locals. The presence of urchins, rocks, and sharks adds to the spot’s difficulty. Nearby surf spots include Angourie Point, Angourie Lefts, Pippies, Razors, and Turners Beach. Angourie, a coastal village in the Clarence Valley Council of New South Wales, is located 5 km south of Yamba and is at the northern tip of Yuraygir National Park. Angourie Beach, declared a National Surfing Reserve in 2007, is known for its quality waves and is often visited by the world’s best surfers. When visiting Spookies, it’s crucial to check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded and assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match your surfing level. Respect the locals.
