Overview
About this Spot
The Trench is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia. This spot is known for its left-hand wave direction and features a coral reef and sand bottom. The ideal tide for surfing The Trench is medium, and it is considered a regional classic in terms of wave quality. Surfers with intermediate experience will find this spot suitable, as it sometimes breaks and offers waves that are less than 50 meters in length. The Trench is typically uncrowded, providing ample opportunities to catch waves without much competition. It’s situated at the tip of the headland between Queenscliff Beach and Freshwater Beach, and you can paddle out from either Queensie or Freshie Beach. Alternatively, you can walk around the rocks and rock off to reach the spot. Be cautious of a big rock that sticks out of the middle of the break at low tide, making mid tide the best time to surf here. The wave can have a good lip and is best at around 4-6 feet. Although the spot is generally empty, it can get a little sharky, so always be vigilant. Nearby surf spots include Queensie Mini, North Steyne, Queenscliff, Queensie Bombie, and Luzas. Before heading out, it’s important to check the surf forecast, report, and map to ensure optimal conditions. Utilizing a webcam can also provide real-time updates on the surf conditions. Remember to respect the locals and check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots. Always check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level.
