About this Spot
Wallagoot is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia. Known for its unique wave conditions, Wallagoot offers both left and right waves, making it a versatile spot for surfers. The surf spot features a sandy bottom and is best surfed during low to medium tides. The quality of the waves is considered normal, and the spot is suitable for surfers of all experience levels. However, it is important to note that Wallagoot sometimes breaks, so checking the surf forecast and report is essential before heading out. The waves at Wallagoot can range from 50 to 150 meters in length, providing ample opportunity for a satisfying ride. One of the advantages of surfing at Wallagoot is the lack of crowds, allowing surfers to enjoy the waves without much competition. Nearby surf spots include Tura Reef, Tathra, Merimbula Bar, Pambula Rivermouth, and Bunga Head, offering additional options for surfers in the area. To reach Wallagoot, take the Wallagoot Lake Boat Club turn off the Merimbula-Tathra Road. The road becomes dirt after 2 kilometers, and continues past the boat club, becoming a single lane that is a bit rough but still manageable for standard cars. After driving 2-3 kilometers, park and walk 500-750 meters to the south side of a headland. It’s advisable to wear thongs as the track is a bit rocky. There is a $7 park usage fee, so be prepared for that expense. Wallagoot is a great alternative when the north swell is not reaching Merimbula Bar and the wind is coming from the north. Before paddling out, check your skills to ensure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. It’s also important to check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots. Respect the locals.
