More experienced surfers might prefer Fort Macon State Park for its powerful and hollow breaks near the rock jetties and shifting sandbars. Be aware of local regulations, such as maintaining a safe distance from piers. To reach Atlantic Beach from Raleigh, take Highway 70 to the coast, ending in Morehead.
