About this Spot

Karang Haji is a surf spot located in Java, Indonesia. The spot is situated in a small cove just east of the Ocean Queen Resort, about 2 kilometers west of Cisolok in West Java. The surf spot provides right waves. Karang Haji features a coral reef and sand bottom, making it suitable for surfers of all levels. The waves here are fairly consistent, with a wave quality rated at 5 out of 10, a power rating of 6, and a ride length scoring 5. The spot works best with swell sizes between 5 to 8 feet, coming from the south to southeast. Mid-tide is ideal for surfing here. Karang Haji is known for being less crowded compared to other nearby breaks, offering a more relaxed surfing experience. The spot is sheltered from winds, often remaining glassy even when nearby breaks are blown out. The best time to surf at Karang Haji is during the dry season, from May to October, when the spot receives distant groundswells and offshore winds from the northeast prevail. Water temperature remains warm year-round, ranging from 25°C to 30°C, allowing for comfortable surfing without a wetsuit. To access the spot, park at the Ocean Queen Resort and walk down the steep road, looking for the trail on the left just before reaching the resort’s gate. Alternatively, you can hire a motorbike (ojek) from nearby towns like Cisolok or Cimaja. Be cautious of rocks in the area, especially during low tide when a rock may be sticking out in the surf. The locals are friendly and helpful, offering beach-style refreshments like coconuts, mineral water, grilled fish, and fried noodles. While Karang Haji is considered one of the better spots in the area for beginners, it’s important to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Remember to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette, especially if the spot gets crowded. Always check the surf forecast and report before your visit to ensure optimal conditions for your surf session.
