Overview
About this Spot
St. Andrews State Park is a surf spot located in Gulf of Mexico, Florida. The park spans 1,200 acres and is situated three miles east of Panama City Beach. This surf spot provides both left and right waves. The beach features a sandy bottom and is suitable for all levels of surfers. St. Andrews State Park is known for its very consistent waves, with lengths ranging from 50 to 150 meters. The spot works best during medium and high tides. The park offers two primary surf breaks: one near the west jetty and another just down from the jetties. The jetty break can produce nice outside waves on good days, while the second break has a nice outside and inside, suitable for both longboarders and shortboarders. During hurricane swells, the park can get crowded, but the different spots help disperse the crowd. The surf spot is known for its rips and undertow, so caution is advised. Sharks have been reported in the area, and there are man-made dangers such as buoys to be aware of. The vibe at the park is generally mellow, but it can get frenzied during swells. Some locals can be territorial, so it’s important to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette, especially when the spot is crowded. The park offers various amenities including parking, picnic areas, and camping facilities. To reach the surf spot, take 98 to Thomas Drive (Alt. 98), follow Thomas Drive past the Treasure Ship, then take a left at the next light and follow 392 a short distance to St. Andrew State Park. Remember to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. The park is part of the St. Andrews State Recreation Area and is known for its emerald green waters and sugar-white sands. The prime surfing season is from fall through spring, coinciding with hurricane season which often brings larger swells to the area.
