About this Spot

Point Of Rocks is a surf spot located in Gulf of Mexico, Florida. It’s situated on Siesta Key, known for its unique rock formations that extend into the Gulf for about half a mile. These formations, created over 4,300 years, are the only beach rock formations on Florida’s west coast. The surf spot provides left waves. Point Of Rocks has a sand and rock bottom, suitable for low and medium tides. It’s an intermediate-level spot that sometimes breaks, with wave lengths ranging from 50 to 150 meters. The spot typically sees few surfers. Nearby surf spots include Lido Beach, Venice North Jetty, Cortez Beach, Holmes Beach Pier, and Anna Maria Island Beach. Point Of Rocks is one of the few natural point breaks on the west coast, with exposed limestone shelves that bend nicely in south swells. It’s known to hold some of the best form without closeout during unusually long-period hurricane swells. Winter is considered the optimal season for surfing here, with the best conditions occurring when southwest swells combine with offshore winds from the east-northeast. Water temperatures range from 19-22°C (66-72°F) in February to 29-31°C (84-88°F) in August. Surfers should check the surf forecast and report before visiting. Parking can be challenging; options include Point O Rocks Road, surrounding areas off Midnight Pass Road, or parking at Crescent Beach and walking south. Remember to respect locals and follow surf etiquette, especially when the spot gets crowded. Always check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Besides surfing, the area is popular for fishing, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. The southern portion of Siesta Beach, where Point of Rocks is located, is alternatively called Crescent Beach. It’s worth noting that Siesta Beach’s sand is 99% quartz, making it cool underfoot even on hot days.
