About this Spot

Perranporth is a surf spot located in Cornwall, United Kingdom. The beach has a sandy bottom and stretches for about 3 miles from Droskyn Point to Ligger Point. The spot is exposed to the Atlantic and gets consistent swells, with the best surf coming from west and northwest swells and the best wind from east and southeast. The minimum swell height for good waves is about 2 feet. The spot provides both left and right waves. Surfing here is best at low and medium tide. At low tide, the far left corner near the cliff can produce wedges with side wash, and the shorebreak can be heavy with some barrels. At higher tide, the waves are longer and less powerful. On big offshore days at low tide, you can choose between a bigger, mellower outside break or a heavy, closing-out shorebreak. The main beach area is good for all levels, but beginners should stick to the main peaks and avoid the southern end near the cliffs at higher tide, as the waves there can be more challenging. The spot is suitable for soft tops, shortboards, mid and retro boards, and longboards. The wave length is usually between 50 and 150 meters. Rips and undertow are common, especially at low tide, so always check the conditions before paddling out. The spot can get crowded in summer, so respect the locals and follow surf etiquette. In winter, the beach is quieter, and the local surfers are usually friendly. There are two main car parks: one at the bottom of the cliff and another up the cliff road, with steps leading down to the beach. Public toilets are available near the main car park and at the Droskyn car park. Nearby surf spots include St Agnes, Penhale, Crantock, Chapel Porth, and Fistral. Always check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level.
