Overview
About this Spot
Sandymouth is a surf spot located in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is situated three miles north of Bude and is managed by the National Trust. The beach features a broad sandy area that extends over one mile (1.6 km) at low tide, nestled between two headlands: Steeple Point and Menachurch Point. The seabed off Sandymouth Beach slopes sharply, which produces strong surf, making it a popular spot for surfing. The wave direction is primarily an a-frame, and the bottom consists of both sand and rocks. Surfing conditions at Sandymouth are generally suitable for all levels of experience, with regular frequency of waves. The length of the wave is typically less than 50 meters, and the crowd size is relatively small compared to other nearby beaches like Widemouth and Summerleaze in Bude. The beach is accessible via the South-west coastal cliff path during mid to high tides, and at lower tides, it can be reached directly along the beach. Parking is available in the National Trust car park or on the verge nearby. It is advisable to check surf etiquette when surfing at crowded spots and to assess your skill level against the difficulty of the waves before entering the water. The beach is known for its mellow vibe and offers a camping opportunity near the break, though it is important to note that the beach can be cobbly, making it more suitable for low tide surfing to avoid potential hazards from rocks at high tide. Respect the locals.
