About this Spot

Lusty Glaze is a surf spot located in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It features an a-frame wave direction and has a sandy bottom. The surf spot is accessible at all tides, but it is important to note that at low tide, it is best to visit only during an ultra-low tide of around 0.1 meters. At this time, the waves can become hollow and form perfect bowls, especially with offshore winds. At high tide, specifically when the tide exceeds 6.5 meters, the beach begins to work as two wedges forming on either side. The waves at high tide can be heavier than those at nearby Tolcarne Beach, although they are generally not as good. However, on occasion, surfers can catch exceptional waves suitable for sponging, which may outperform other spots in the Newquay area. During winter, the beach remains relatively empty, even when conditions are favorable with waves reaching 6 feet or more. Surfers typically maintain a respectful distance from one another, allowing for a peaceful surfing experience where only the sound of the waves is heard. Lifeguards are present and tend to be accommodating to local surfers. Lusty Glaze features a beach bar and other amenities, making it accessible for families. As a sponger, it is advisable to surf the wedge at high tide when the waves are between 3 to 5 feet and the wind is offshore. When the tide reaches 6.8 meters, it can be worthwhile to check the shore break, but caution is advised if the surf is over 3 feet, as it can become dangerous. Lusty Glaze is situated between Porth Beach and Tolcarne Beach, and at low tide, it can be accessed from any beach in Newquay. However, at high tide, it requires navigating down 98 steps to reach the beach. The surf experience at Lusty Glaze is suitable for all levels, with a wave length of less than 50 meters and typically an empty crowd. Nearby surf spots include Porth Beach, Tolcarne Beach, Whipsiderry, Towan, and Fistral. It is essential to assess your skill level against the difficulty of the waves before entering the water. Respect the locals.
