Overview
About this Spot
Goolwa is a surf spot located in South Australia, Australia. This spot provides both left and right waves. The bottom is sandy, and it can be surfed at all tides. The quality of the waves is generally considered sloppy, making it suitable for surfers of all levels. The waves are typically less than 50 meters in length, and the spot is often empty, providing plenty of space for surfers. Goolwa is situated near other surf spots such as Middleton Beach, Middleton Point, Bashams Bommie, Frenchies, and Chicken Run. The surf spot is known for its long paddle out, especially in onshore conditions, and sometimes experiences strong longshore rips. While it is not considered a great spot, it can occasionally get good, particularly when the swell is too big for nearby spots like Waits and Parsons but too small for others around Middleton or Pt Elliot. To reach Goolwa, drive to Victor Harbor, turn left at the roundabout before town, and head along the coast past Pt Elliot and Middleton. Take the road to the beach before the town, drive to the beach carpark, and paddle out. The area around Victor Harbor is a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer holidays. Respect the locals. It’s important to check the surf etiquette when a spot is crowded. Check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level.
