Overview
About this Spot
Coffs Reef is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia. Known for its challenging conditions, this spot features a coral reef bottom and provides both left and right waves. It is suitable for intermediate surfers who are looking for an epic surfing experience. The waves at Coffs Reef are less than 50 meters in length and the spot is generally empty, offering a more solitary surfing experience. However, surfers should be cautious of the urchins, rips, undertow, rocks, and the presence of sharks in the area. Pollution can also be a concern, so it’s important to be mindful of the water quality. Localism is present, so respecting the locals is crucial. The north wall mainly works on a big swell, creating a wedge that is a very shallow and hollow right-hander. There are three main sandbanks: the wedge, which is a hollow right breaking off the breakwall; the middle bank, which breaks left and right and is fast and hollow; and the bank known as suicides to locals, which is a fast, powerful, big, and heavy wave that closes out in shallow water. These conditions can produce good barrels when the banks are favorable. Surfers can access the spot by heading to Coffs Jetty marina and jumping off the rocks near the stairs. It’s important to check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Always check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots. Respect the locals.
