About this Spot

Diamonds is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia, known for its unique and challenging waves. The spot features a rock platform where the wave doubles up and barrels, creating a short but intense ride. The wave is known for its sucky takeoff, but if you manage to make it, you’ll find yourself in the green room, experiencing a short, sharp barrel in the right conditions. The wave breaks close to rocks, and if you successfully navigate the barrel, you’ll end up in the channel for an easy paddle back out. Diamonds is considered a regional classic, and it’s more of a bodyboard wave, although stand-up surfers can ride it during higher tides. The spot is rarely surfed, making it one of the few secret spots left in the Eastern Suburbs of New South Wales. With a wave length of less than 50 meters, it’s a spot best suited for experienced surfers, as the wave can be really heavy if it’s bigger than 3 feet. The bottom is rocky, and the wave direction is right. The spot is generally empty, providing a unique opportunity for those who venture there. To reach Diamonds, you can drive to Diamond Bay, following Diamond Bay Road, which passes by the Diamond Bay Bowls Club. From there, walk down through Diamond Bay Reserve to the cliff boardwalk. As you walk along the wooden boardwalk, you’ll see a stone arch, almost like a door arch. Beyond that point, there’s a set of ladders leading down to the sea. Be cautious when climbing down. It’s important to check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots and to assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Respect the locals.
